A Little Pocket in Fairfax County
Kingstowne is a residential community in the Franconia-Springfield area of Fairfax County. Nearby neighborhoods include Newington to the south and Lincolnia to the north. From Kingstowne, residents have easy access to I-395 and I-495, making traveling to other towns quick and simple. Residents also are close to the Washington, D.C. metro on the Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street Stations.
A planned community of over 5,300 homes, Kingstowne is far enough away from the city to have a quaint, small-town feel. The community is comprised of 47 different neighborhoods grouped into three villages and is overseen by the Kingstowne Residential Owners Corporation. The KROC communicates with residents through a monthly magazine called the Kingstonian.
When it comes to housing, residents have a wide variety to choose from. The community offers a range of apartments, condos and single-family homes. Condominium buildings include Chancery on the Lake, Eton Square and Stratford Place. Apartments can be found at The Egdemoore, The Elms at Kingstowne and Sussex at Kingstowne. Each building has its own unique amenities such as tennis courts, playgrounds, swimming pools and sundecks.

Kingstowne offers its resident’s two fully equipped fitness centers, one on the Kingstowne Village Parkway and one on Van Dorn Street. Completely free for people with valid passes, the fitness centers include many different programs such as tennis, soccer and karate. People serious about getting in shape can sign up for a personal trainer, or if you are just trying to unwind after a busy week, you can make an appointment for a Swedish massage.
Residents also have access to several community centers, through which they can sign up for a variety of free clubs and classes including chess, cooking, line dancing and Tai Chi. The Snyder Community Center and South Community Center also have pools to enjoy during the hot weather. Both offer swimming lessons and aquatic aerobics.
In addition to its many amenities, Kingstowne also features special events to help bring its residents together. The Recycla “Bowl” Competition pits neighborhoods against each other in friendly competition, with the goal of seeing which one can recycle the most. An exciting way to work towards a greener community, this competition is just one way the people of Kingstowne come together.
During the summer, the community pools make sure the stifling heat doesn’t keep people’s spirits down. At the beginning of the season, there is a huge summer kick-off party, featuring aquatic fun for the kids, a magician and food trucks. The Snyder pool also hosts a dive-in night, where residents can view a free movie while enjoying the swimming pool.
Finally, the weekly farmer’s market is another great place for people from all over the town to gather and enjoy fresh produce and dairy products, baked goods, herbs, meats and anything else you can imagine. Held on Fridays from 4-7 pm at the Kingstowne Town Center, the market features longtime favorite vendors and new merchants each year.

Kingstowne Town Center is a major office and retail hub in eastern Fairfax County. The center includes typical fast food, pizza places, a grocery store, and a movie theater, but there is also a variety of diverse restaurants to check out.
Firehouse Subs boast a menu of fresh and delicious subs and salads, all less than five hundred calories. With a huge selection of hot sauces ranging from mild to spicy, this sandwich shop is a welcome departure from the typical Subway experience. Menu favorites include turkey bacon ranch on wheat and the New York Steamer. And the best part is that a portion of your bill will go towards the restaurant’s foundation, which provides firehouses with life-saving equipment, fire prevention education and support for members of the military.
Another popular destination is Moby Dick’s House of Kabob, right next door to Firehouse. Known for their quality Persian kabobs, Moby Dick’s offers friendly service and generous portion sizes; regular customers claim that one entrée is enough to feed two hungry people.
For a satisfying meal of seafood, people head to Bonefish Grill, a great place for a nice sit-down meal or hanging out at the bar with friends. Everyone who has been here highly recommends the famous bang bang shrimp, mouthwatering mussels in garlic butter sauce, or lobster tail with potato au gratin.
