Calvert County MD History

The land of Calvert County has been renamed many times throughout history. It was first founded as Charles County in 1650.  In 1654, it was renamed to Patuxent County.  Four years later it was renamed again to Calvert County.  The land was originally dominated by farms and tobacco fields, but it now is one of the fastest growing counties in the DC area.

Calvert's population has nearly quadrupled in the past decade due to its popular location and close proximity to DC.  Many Maryland, DC, and Virginia residents come to the county to vacation in popular waterfront spots like Solomons, MD and Chesapeake Beach.

Calvert County is almost completely surrounded by water giving residents and excuse to live on their boats and for enjoying Maryland's beauty.

Where do people live in Calvert County?

Calvert residents live mostly on the water, with some neighborhoods further towards the middle of the county.  No house is far from the coast however; the drive from one side of the peninsula to the other is only ten minutes.

Calvert County runs busses along major routes around the area.  Some busses also run to Prince Frederic County.

Calvert County MD Boundaries

Calvert County is bordered by six counties.  The only two counties connected by land are Anne Arundel to the north and Prince George's to the northwest.  Across the Patuxent River to the west is Charles County, and to the south, St. Mary's County.  On the other side of the Chesapeake Bay, Dorchester and Talbot Counties both border Calvert.

Entertainment and Restaurant options in Calvert County MD

Because of Calvert's location, there is no shortage of seafood in this county.  The favorite seafood restaurants in the area include Jerry's Place and Stoney's Seafood House.  Some other nice dining options are La Tolteca Mexican Restaurant, Sakura Japanese Steakhouse, Adam's the Place For Ribs, and Salsaritas Fresh Cantina.
