Fauquier County VA History

Fauquier County officially became a part of Virginia in 1722.  It wasn't until 1759 that the County was established after the land was taken from Prince William County.  The county's name comes from Francis Fauquier, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia at the time.  According to legend, the land was won by Francis Fauquier in a poker game.  The county has a very rich Civil War history that is very important to the area's culture and tradition.
