Rappahannock County VA History
Rappahannock County was founded in 1656 from a part of Lancaster County. In 1692 however, the land was split to form Essex County and Richmond County. Because of the growing population in the area in 1833, the Virginia General Assembly chose to form it once again from part of Culpeper County and named it after the Culpeper river.

The southeast border is Culpepper County and the southwest is Madison County. In the western corner of the county the border runs along Page County.
