Virginia History
Officially known as the Commonwealth of Virginia and the birthplace of eight US Presidents, Virginia is rich in both history and natural beauty. The Blue Ridge Mountains adorn the western boundary of the state while the eastern side lines the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. One of the original thirteen colonies, the capital city of Richmond was made the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War.
Virginia's Economy
Northern VA is well established as the Commonwealth's economic engine. Home to the Department of Defense, CIA and a hotbed for Defense Contractors, NOVA takes full advantage of its proximity to Washington, DC. Hampton Roads is a major seaport and plays a major role in the nation's defense as well. Agriculture dominates the western portion of the state in the Shenandoah Valley.
