Fall In Love With The Location
Located in the northeast quadrant of Washington, D.C., Benning is bordered by the Deanwood and Fort Dupont neighborhoods to the north and south respectively. Nannie Helen Burough Ave roughly defines its northern border, while East Capitol Street forms the southern line. To the east, Benning is defined by Division Ave and to the west by Anacostia Highway.

One of the more affordable neighborhoods of DC, Benning offers residents a rich variety of single-family homes, townhouses and condo buildings. Out And About The Town
The neighborhood of Benning is conveniently bookended by two metro stations, with the Minnestoa Avenue NE stop in the western part and the Benning Road station in the east. For residents who own cars, there are many major roads that make it easy to navigate DC. Anacostia Highway runs north to south, East Capitol Street runs east to west and Benning Road NE also runs east to west, crossing the Anacostia River and Kingman Lake.
Breath of Fresh Air
In the midst of a major city, Benning is only a few minutes away from some of the most beautiful landscapes, gardens and open space in the country. The National Arboretum will easily become a favorite destination, whether it’s for a nice day out with the family, walking the dog or just escaping the traffic and noise of DC’s streets. Bike around the nine miles of paved roads, walk through the shady natural woodlands of Fern Valley, or view the beautiful plants in bloom. A national site of botanical research, the Arboretum features many different types of plants and gardens, carefully planned and maintained. Some of which include the National Grove of State Trees, the Perennial Collections of daylilies, daffodils and peonies, and Asia collections featuring the Japanese Woodland, China Valley and Korean Hillside. The Arboretum also hosts many fun events and activities throughout the year. The Full Moon Hike is a popular monthly outing, letting people appreciate the gardens’ natural beauty under the light of the moon. The Grassroots Exhibit is another fun, “after hours’ event featuring lawn games and free scoops of ice cream, with something for every member of the family to enjoy. Bring your blanket, spread out and enjoy some jazz with the Music in the Meadow series. Practically in Benning’s backyard, the National Arboretum is a stunning community fixture, offering fun and entertainment for free!
Classic and Convenient Cuisine
The Benning neighborhood is a mecca of convenient takeout and delivery places. Street corners are adorned with popular chains such as Pizza Hut, Dominos, Subway and more. There are also many fast food restaurants sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. If you’re looking for quick eats, Benning has seemingly endless options. However, residents only have to travel a short distance to enjoy some of the finer restaurants the northeast quadrant has to offer.
Right on H Street, Granville Moore’s is a community staple. Fondly referring to itself as a “gastropub with a healthy Belgian fetish,” this restaurant opened in 2007 as a Belgian beer bar. However, the place began to attract beer lovers and foodies alike with its upscale bar food. Executive Chef Teddy Folkman, and experienced culinary master has climbed his way to the top of many of DC’s best restaurants, and is somewhat of a local celebrity, having appeared on many Food Network programs. Folkman now works tirelessly to make sure Granville Moore continues to serve the best quality food, using only the freshest ingredients. To keep things interesting, the menu changes seasonally, so come back regularly to check out more of Folkman’s tasty and innovative creations. You can usually expect to see a little bit of everything on the menu here, ranging from sandwiches to steaks, seafood, salads and much, much more!
Bistro Cacao, located on Massachusetts Avenue NE is another great, upscale local eatery. Housed in a historic building, the interior of this quaint restaurant evokes the feeling of Old Europe, while the delectable dishes offer a taste of modern bistro-style French cuisine. The separate lunch menu is designed to offer convenient meals that are delicious yet quick to prepare, including a variety of sandwiches, salads, and entrees. For dinner, gather here for classic French indulgences with a contemporary flair. Treat yourself to mouthwatering main dishes such as the pan-seared duck breast, the grilled salmon fillet and vegetarian options including the assiette de legumes with tofu and the Portobello mushroom ravioli. The wine bar is also now open, serving a selection of French wines, cheeses and charcuterie. Rent out the private party room to give any event and elegant touch, or ask about other catering options!

Most affordable housing?
Benning Road runs right through this neighborhood. Row houses that were built in the 40's and 50's line the streets. Prices remain low compared to neighborhoods on the west side of the Anacostia River. New businesses are showing up on a regular basis and more people are relocating here. It is a very easy commute downtown either by driving or making use of the Metro (there is a stop). Benning Road, once only known for the Shrimpboat, is becoming a neighborhood known for affordability.
