Lyon Park Arlington, VA
Guide to Lyon Park
Lyon Park is a tree-lined neighborhood of single family homes situated near Arlington, Virginia’s bustling Clarendon neighborhood. This serene, yet active neighborhood is just far enough away from the development of “Arlington’s Downtown” to provide residents with a relaxing environment, but also close enough that many of Clarendon’s hot spots are still within quick walking and even quicker driving distance. Besides the neighborhood’s close proximity to the ever-popular Clarendon neighborhood, Lyon Park has so much to offer to its residents, like great parks, an active community association, highly rated schools and some of the most sought-after single family homes in the area.
Lyon Park’s Location
Lyon Park is another Arlington, Virginia neighborhood that is often considered a part of Clarendon. Clarendon ends and Lyon Park begins at 10th Street N, and then continues down an L-shaped section of Arlington Boulevard, up N Irving Street, and back up north to 10th Street N.
Homes for Sale in Lyon Park
The community of Lyon Park has been an Arlington fixture since the mid-20th century, when DC began to see an overflow of residents flock to Northern Virginia. Its close proximity to the Capitol made it a no-brainer for developers to take advantage of the underutilized land right across the river from DC. Ever since development began in the 1920s, there has been steady construction of mostly single-family homes, with a couple of townhome and garden-style condo developments on the edge of the neighborhood near Arlington Boulevard and Washington Boulevard. While strolling down the sidewalks of Lyon Park, it’s common to see a 1950s bungalow plopped next to a brand new Craftsman-style home, or a garden-style condominium complex within a couple blocks of a stately Colonial.
One of the main reasons why Lyon Park has continued to be a “neighborhood to watch” in Arlington is due to the community’s active citizen’s association. Besides keeping residents informed and involved, the community also puts on events almost every month of the year, facilitating neighborhood bonding and always providing residents with something to do. Some of the annual events in the neighborhood include a community yard sale, chili cook-off and the highly anticipated Spring Home and Gardens Tour.
Dining Out in Lyon Park
On the entertainment and dining side, it’s easy to automatically assume that all of the choices for Lyon Park residents lie in the neighboring Clarendon area. However, Lyon Park has a couple of awesome takeout and eat-in dining options of its own. If you’re looking for some takeout, look no further than Astor Mediterranean, BonChon Chicken, and Paisano’s Pizza. There are also some cool spots to try for a unique sit-down meal or a night out, mainly on Washington Boulevard, including EatBar and Sibarita. There are also some retail and services right in the area, including beauty salons, convenience stores and furniture stores.
Indoor and Outdoor Fun
Lyon Park is lucky to have a string of parks that run parallel to Washington Boulevard, beginning with Henry Clay Park, the grounds of the Lyon Park Community Center, and finally leading to Fillmore Park. All of these parks are perfect for getting some fresh air and exercise. Henry Clay Park is a bit small compared to others in the area, but makes up for it with all of its recreation options, including a gazebo, playground and basketball court. Fillmore Park has a paved trail that runs through the park, a playground, picnic tables, baseball fields, and softball fields. If group fitness and indoor workouts are more your thing, check out one of the many fitness facilities of Clarendon and surrounding areas, including Gold’s Gym, Washington Sports Club, Lava Barre, Spark Yoga and Clarendon Fitness.
Getting Around Lyon Park
Lyon Park’s location is one of the main reasons the neighborhood has remained so popular since its rise in the 1920s. One of the main arteries of Arlington, Washington Boulevard cuts the neighborhood in half, leading to access points at Route 50, George Washington Memorial Parkway, I-395, and I-66. Public Transportation is another convenient option to get into Washington DC or out to Vienna and points West via the Orange and Silver Metro lines, Metrobus, or Arlington Transit. Since most homes in Lyon Park have garages or dedicated resident-only street parking, Lyon Park locals can enjoy the best of both worlds, taking the Metro or bus to work, but still having the freedom of a car for weekend trips and errands.
Making Your Home in Lyon Park
Like much of Arlington, Lyon Park is another neighborhood that shows no sign of a lack of interest; many potential buyers will wait for the perfect home only in this highly desirable neighborhood. With the parks, entertainment, recreation and transportation options nearby, it’s pretty clear why future residents won’t settle for anything else but Lyon Park.
