Enjoying the Great Outdoors in Prince George’s County
Although Prince George’s County is not often credited for the Washington Redskins, the team’s stadium is in Landover and attracts plenty of locals and visitors for its games. The National Harbor, one of the largest single mixed-use projects in the area, combines a convention center, a mall and a hotel on the southwest coast of the county and is among top tourist attractions. Others include NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Andrews Air Force Base, the University of Maryland’s flagship College Park campus, Six Flags America and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor.
Piscataway Park Nature Walk is just south of the National Harbor and is one of the largest green spaces in Prince George’s County. Located in Accokeek, this National Park offers woodlands and wetlands with a fishing pier, two boardwalks, nature trails and views of the Potomac River. Other parks in Prince George’s County range from Cedarville State Forest, Rosaryville State Park, Watkins Regional Park, and Greenbelt Park—a large park offering picnic tables, playgrounds, walking trails, plus campgrounds in year-round getaways.
Transportation Around Prince George’s County
I-495 is primarily the most used interstate in the county and extends to other counties and interstates like I-370 in Montgomery County. Fifteen stations of the Washington Metro are located in Prince George’s County, with four of them being terminus stations: Greenbelt, New Carrollton, Largo and Branch Avenue. The MARC Train operates two lines within the county, while those looking to travel through the friendly skies can rely on College Park Airport, Ronald Reagan, Dulles and BWI.
